CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy is a very gentle bodywork method that focuses on stimulating your CranioSacral system (membranes and fluid that surround the brain and spinal cord) to heal the body.CST effectively complements your body’s natural healing process, and has been known to help alleviate a wide variety of problems including:

  • Recovery From Childbirth (Mother and Child)
  • Nursing Difficulties (Mother and Child)
  • Migrain Headaches
  • Central Nervous System Disorders
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • TMJ
  • Fibromyalgia

Infant Massage Instruction

Infant Massage Instruction: allow me to help educate you in a style of bodywork designed specifically to promote the healthy development of your infant.  Caring human touch is crucial for a healthy thriving baby, and the benefits of massaging a young child are many, including:

  • Improved growth and development of the brain and nervous system
  • Decreased incidence of gas and colic symptoms
  • Strengthened immune system function
  • Regulated sleeping patterns, leading to deeper sleep
  • Greater levels of trust, attachment and intimacy between parent and child
  • helps older siblings gain a sense of attachment and responsibility for their new little brother or sister
Most families require 3-5, one-hour sessions in order to learn the desired skills.  These sessions are offered in a group setting (maximum 5 couples) at Body, Mind & Molly, or in an individual setting in your home.  Regardless of which format you chose, you will purchase a 5 session pass which you can use at your convenience until your child's first birthday***.   It is my hope that this will provide new families the opportunity to attend class when it suits them best should they need to skip a week for extra rest, etc.  Individual classes are arranged to take place in your home at a time that works for your family.

***If you feel you have learned the desired skills in less than 5 sessions, you may utilize the unused sessions as a credit ($25 each session) toward any other services I offer.  I might suggest a creaniosacral session for you or your child or a massage for you or your partner.  This is a great advantage and will maximize your investment in massage as a tool for your family.  Another option-  you may simply want to save those extra sessions and attend the infant massage instruction class later in your child's first year once your child is more active and you need help adapting your massage skills to their new busy little lifestyle. I simply request that all credits/sessions be redeemed by your child's first birthday.

Customized Massage Therapy

My Custom Therapeutic Relaxation Massage may include any of the following techniques:

Most common:
Swedish Massage
is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, improved appearance, and greater flexibility.

*Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don’t get too uncomfortable. Keep in mind that soreness is pretty common after the treatment, and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session.

*Trigger Point Therapy is a style of bodywork that focuses on stimulating and releasing “trigger points” in your body.  Trigger points are tender areas of tension similar to acupressure points, except they occur in the belly of the muscle tissue rather than along the energy pathways of the body.  These ‘knots’ are built up throughout a person’s life due to physical, mental, and/or emotional stress.  During a session, focused pressure is applied through a variety of techniques order to release your trigger points.  This process can be somewhat painful at times, yet the effects are lasting and profoundly transformative.

Sports Massage
is a type of massage designed for highly active people who engage in athletics.  Engaging in sports is harsh on the body and can often lead to injuries in both the short and long term.  Sports Massage enhances performance and prolongs a sports career by helping to prevent injury, reduce pains and swelling in the body, relax the mind, increase flexibility, and dramatically improve recovery rates.  Sports Massage is also highly effective in aiding the rapid recovery of an athlete from an injury by encouraging greater kinesthetic awareness and in turn promoting the body’s natural immune function.

Other:

CranioSacral Therapy, Swe-Thai Massage, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Functioning (PNF), Passive Stretching, etc.

*When I am performing deeper forms of bodywork (i.e. deep Tissue Massage and Trigger Point Therapy,) I feel it is important to work with your body to get it to release knots and tension. Therefore, I often discuss the use of a pain scale from ranging from 1-10 (1=no/low pain, 10=high amount of pain).  I ask that you do  not let me exceed a 5-6 on your personal pain threshold scale. This range tends to be ideal for releasing trigger points and prevents the body from moving into a self-defensive mode.  5-6 should feel a bit tender, but somewhat of a "good" soreness as it is releasing.  If you find that you are holding your breath, or if your body is tensing/bracing against the pressure, you are past a 5-6 and need to tell me what number you are at (i.e. 9, 10, 12!)- so that I may lighten up accordingly to reach our optimum working pressure.

Feel free to ask me any questions you wish regarding the techniques I use.  The most important thing to know is that I use the tools that best suit your bodies needs during each of your visits!

Prenatal/Postnatal Massage and Craniosacral Therapy

Prentatal/Postnatal Massage and Craniosacral Therapy are forms of bodywork designed specifically for pregnant women and/or women who recently gave birth.  This is a time in which a woman’s body endures tremendous stress due to dramatic physical, mental, and emotional changes.  Using various techniques specifically for the new mother, Massage and Craniosacral Therapy help to alleviate discomforts experienced throughout the pregnancy and create more space in the expanding body.  The benefits are profound, including emotional support, the reduction of joint pain due to extra weight and postural imbalance, improved breathing and relaxation, and relief from uncomfortable digestive issues.  I encourage mothers who have recently had their babies to feel free to bring baby along for Mom's massage.  If you need, I can accomodate your baby should he/she need to nurse during your massage.  A relaxed and healing Mom always helps to induce a relaxed and healthy baby.

Partner Massage Instruction

Partner Massage Instuction is one way I like to help clients make massage a regular part of their lifestyle and health maintanence.  Couples and/or a pair of friends are taught the basic skills of providing a therapeutic, beneficial Massage to those they care for in a joint, one-hour session.  Techniques include swedish massage/relaxation techniques.  If you or your partner have specific or chronic problems you wish to address, I am happy to teach you specific skills with which you may help one another through the use of Massage Therapy.
